Maine geography

Maine is a state with many unique and beautiful qualities; the land maMainekes it this way. This state has a coastline with a rocky and jagged surface. The low rolling mountains can be seen throughout the state. The state’s interior is full  of forests. Many bastling waterways are home’s to sea life. The climate in Maine is generally cooler than most states with long and cold winters. It’s warm summers give it a nickname of “Vacation Land”.

The state of Maine is located in the New England region of the United States along with the states New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The New England region is also known as the Northeast corner of the United States. Located to the south, New Hampshire is the only bordering state of Maine. The country of Canada borders the north, northwest, and northeast edges of the state. The state of Maine measures 35,385 square miles ranking it the thirty-ninth largest state. Maine's population is has 1,328,361 citizens, making Maine’s population rank in the United States the forty-first.  Maine’s capital is Augusta. Augusta is located southeast from the center of Maine with a population of 18,494 people. Two major cities in Maine are Augusta and Lewiston. Lewiston is also located southeast of the center of Maine. Lewiston’s population is 36,140 people.

In Maine’s climate in January’s  average temperature is about 10 °F (–12 °C) in Northern Maine and about 20 °F (–7 °C) in Southern Maine. July’s average temperature is about 67 °F (19 °C) throughout the state. The state's record low temperature is –50 °F (–46 °C) the record high temperature is 105 °F (41 °C).Maine's yearly precipitation average is about 42 inches. Maine has cooler weather than most of the rest of the United States.

Land regions

Maine’s land regions consist of many interesting land regions. Also many tourist sites and famous landmarks.

One of the three land regions Maine has is the coastal lowlands. The coastal lowlands extends from 10 to 40 miles wide. Most of the coastal lowlands are near sea level. Maine’s largest island is Mount Desert, which covers 100 square miles. The coastal lowlands cover Southeastern Maine.

Maine’s second land region is The eastern New England upland. The entire upland extends from Canada’s border to Connecticut. The eastern New England upland is twenty to fifty miles wide. The Aroostook Plateau lies in the Northeastern part of the region. The eastern New England upland lies Northwest of the coastal lowlands.
Maine’s third and final region is the White Mountains region. This region covers the whole entire Northwest part of Maine. This region in Maine is five miles wide. The White Mountains region is the home to hundreds of Maine’s lakes and most of Maine’s

Landforms

 Maine has three landforms, one of these landforms is the mountains this is maine’s first landform. Mount Katahdin has the highest peak in Maine, mount Katahdin is 5,267 ft high. Mount Katahdin is located in Central Maine. Mount Katahdin’s waters and woods are known as a National monument.

 

 Maine’s second landform is Maine’s rivers. Maine has more than 5,000 rivers. Maine’s main rivers are the Androscoggin river, and the Saco river. The St. John river is the largest river in Northern Maine.

 

 Maine’s third and final landform is the lakes of Maine. Maine’s largest lake is the Moosehead lake, the Moosehead lake is 120 square miles. Other large lakes in Maine are Belgades, The grands, the rangeley, and the sebago. There are 2,500 lakes in Maine.
